W. Hunter Old is a partner at Heath, Overbey, Verser & Old, P.L.C.,
and is head of
Aviation Law Center, the firm’s aviation division. He has been in private practice for
more than 20 years, more than 15 of which have been in service to the
Peninsula region. He has maintained a varied civil litigation practice
throughout that time and presently focuses on litigation matters involving
aviation, residential and commercial construction, inheritance disputes,
and contested real property matters. He regularly accepts referrals from
other attorneys and former and existing clients.
A resident of Williamsburg, Hunter’s career reflects a belief in
service to the community. Locally, he has served on the boards of several
non-profit organizations and is presently the Chair of the Board of Williamsburg
Faith in Action, a local charity that aims to help seniors remain in their
homes. For the aviation community, he is a board member for two state-wide
organizations, the Virginia Aeronautical Historical Association (where
he is the immediate past president) and the Virginia Aerospace Business
Association. In the legal community, he has represented Virginia’s 9th Judicial District on Bar Council, which acts as the Board of Directors
of the Virginia State Bar. He sits on the Virginia State Bar’s MCLE
Committee, and on the VSB’s Judicial Candidate Selection Committee.
He also has served on the Special Committee on Bench-Bar Relations, including
two years as the Board’s chair. Over the years, he has held every
officer position in the Williamsburg Bar Association.
Hunter was in the U.S. Army Reserves for 14 years as an aviator and officer
and flew both UH-1s (Hueys) and CH-47s (Chinooks). In 2003-04, he was
deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he served
as a company commander. He holds a commercial, rotary-wing pilot’s
license with instrument rating. He is married to Lisa and has two college-aged
children. A fan of all things that fly, he can frequently be found on
weekend mornings at one of several disc golf courses in the local area.
