W. Hunter Old

W. Hunter Old is a partner at Heath, Overbey, Verser & Old, P.L.C., and is head of Aviation Law Center, the firm’s aviation division. He has been in private practice for more than 20 years, more than 15 of which have been in service to the Peninsula region. He has maintained a varied civil litigation practice throughout that time, and presently focuses on litigation matters involving aviation, residential and commercial construction, inheritance disputes and contested real property matters. He regularly accepts referrals from other attorneys and former and existing clients.

A resident of Williamsburg, Hunter’s career reflects a belief in service to the community. Locally, he has served on the boards of several non-profit organizations, and is presently the Vice Chair of the Board of Williamsburg Faith in Action. For the aviation community, he is a board member for two state-wide organizations, the Virginia Aeronautical Historical Association (where he is immediate past president) and the Virginia Aerospace Business Association. In the legal community, he represents Virginia’s 9th Judicial District (which includes Williamsburg/James City County, York County/Poquoson, Gloucester, Charles City, King William and Mathews) on Bar Council, which acts as the board of directors of the Virginia State Bar. He also has served on the Virginia State Bar’s Special Committee on Bench-Bar Relations, including two years as the Board’s chair. Over the years, he has held every officer position in the Williamsburg Bar Association.

Hunter was in the U.S. Army Reserves for 14 years as an aviator and officer, and flew both UH-1s (Hueys) and CH-47s (Chinooks). In 2003-04, he was deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he served as a company commander. He holds a commercial, rotary-wing pilot’s license with instrument rating. He is married to Lisa, and has two college age children. A fan of all things that fly, he can frequently be found on weekend mornings at one of several disc golf courses in the local area.

"We are leaders both in the community and the bar, and it's that leadership that has led to our reputation."
